New pet spa celebrates its first anniversary in June

“I love the community atmosphere here,” says Belynda Raine, owner of Doodles & Whiskers Pet Spa, in Tollgate Village, about one of the many things she loves about Thompson’s Station and the rest of Williamson County. Raine opened Doodles & Whiskers in June of 2025. Still, she has almost a decade and a half of experience in the pet spa business, having operated her own shop in Santa Clarita, California, before moving to Middle Tennessee.

"Doodles & Whiskers is not anything like a large corporate place. It’s a family business, and our focus is to be more one-on-one with the dogs, cats, and the customers. It’s a quieter, calmer environment than one might find at many other groomers,” offers Raine, who has three dogs of her own, a standard poodle and a Chihuahua among them. 

“My clients are people who want their dog to have a stress-free, personalized grooming experience as well as a stylish haircut. One of the benefits of Doodles & Whiskers is that the dogs and cats get to know the groomer, so it’s not someone new every single time,” she offers, noting that their grooming service includes a refreshing bath combined with a haircut style of your preference (as coat conditions allow), plus nail and pad trimming, ear cleaning and a meticulous brush out.

Doodles & Whiskers also offers other services a la carte, including de-matting, tooth brushing, nail painting and hair coloring. 

Raine and her associates also spend a lot of time advising clients about the best ways to care for their pets between appointments. 

"It’s important to maintain proper brushing technique—and to know which brush to use. If you want a fluffy teddy bear haircut, you have to brush a certain way with a certain type of brush,” she offers, highlighting but one example. 

Raine says most of her customers learn about Doodles & Whiskers 

"If a mom’s dogs come here, most likely her daughter’s dogs will come here, and then the daughter will tell their neighbors,” she relates, noting that about 90 percent of her business is dogs. “A lot of people don’t realize we do cats, even though ‘Whiskers’ is in our name.”

Raine & Co. also spends considerable time working with local rescue groups, and Doodles & Whiskers periodically hosts adoption days at the shop.

"Sometimes I groom dogs for free so they can get adopted,” relates Raine, before highlighting how her shop is open six days a week, including 8-4 on Saturdays.

"Most of our clients book their appointments on our website,” she says, “and some people pre-book their appointments months ahead of time so they can make sure they can get the days and times they want.”

Doodles & Whiskers also benefits from its location, which is readily accessible via either I-65 or I-840. And there’s plenty to do in and around Tollgate Village while clients wait for their pets.

"There's a nearby lake, and some clients take a walk around the lake while they wait. There are also some great coffee shops,” she adds, referencing White Shepherd Coffee and Settlers Coffee and Provisions. “There is plenty to do while you are waiting for your dog.”
