Dynamic Duo

By Jason Zasky

Say hello to realtors Kimberly Thurman and Raquel Marchant

“We both believe people get put in our lives for a reason. God finds us people that need us,” begins realtor Kimberly Thurman, speaking on behalf of her business partner and longtime friend, Raquel Marchant. One can make the case that God put Thurman and Marchant together, too.

“For 10 years, I co-owned a bakery in California called Bake You Happy, but I enjoyed real estate and thought it would be a great career. Raquel and I met because our sons played soccer together, and she said, ‘You should get your (real estate) license, and we should work together.’”

That’s exactly what Thurman did, though not before she appeared on the Food Network television show Cupcake Wars and took home $10,000 as the Season 2 winner.

“If I was going to do this (real estate), I wanted to be mentored by someone who knew what they were doing and had longevity in the business,” says Thurman, before noting that Marchant has been in the business for 37 years—and a broker since the age of 26.

“We are like yin and yang, but we work really well together, and we help each other out,” continues Thurman. “It’s nice for clients to have two agents, too, because if one of us isn’t able to show a home or answer the phone, the other is able to do that. It also makes real estate a lot more fun. Having her support and knowledge has been a huge reason why our partnership has been so successful, and I can’t imagine doing it without her.”

These days, Thurman lives in Thompson’s Station full-time, while Marchant (a South Carolina native) lives in Franklin part-time and commutes back and forth from Southern California. Together, they help clients buy and sell homes in both the Golden State and the Volunteer State, and often help California transplants, too.

Notably, Thurman and Marchant go above and beyond what typical real estate agents do.

“Our philosophy is ‘work hard, be kind,’” explains Thurman. “We are very ethical agents, and we work really hard for our clients. We are involved with every transaction, and we want our clients involved from beginning to end. And once we close business with them, we still talk to them and help them with anything related to their real estate needs. If they need some painting done or if they have a question about their taxes, we find someone to help,” she continues.

“We build relationships, and we want to continue to talk to clients through the years,” adds Marchant, who also offers a valuable piece of advice for those who are looking for a real estate broker.

“Find someone who has your best interests at heart, and someone you trust that is going to give you good advice,” she says.

“We find out our clients’ goals and what they are trying to do, and then we can show them things that maybe they wouldn’t have thought about,” continues Thurman, who says she and Marchant work with clients throughout Middle Tennessee, everywhere from Pulaski all the way up to Clarksville.

“I sold a house in Ethridge the other day. It’s a town that is very Amish. I drove past four little buggies,” she adds, before noting that one of the nice things about Middle Tennessee is the diversity of real estate options. “You can live in the city, or you can live further out and have some space and get a more attractive price.”

Meanwhile, Thurman and Marchant—who are both married to first responders—also enjoy giving back to the local community.

One cause that is near and dear to their hearts is Peyton’s Project, which raises money for the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

“One of our friends has a child with the condition, and we are having a fundraiser at Magnolia Farm in Eagleville on August 29,” highlights Thurman, noting that the event raised $30K in 2024 and $50k in 2025, and they hope to raise even more this year.

The pair is also spending some of their valuable time mentoring other real estate agents.

“We are very patient, and we love teaching other agents about negotiating and how to write an offer,” relates Marchant.

Last but not least, they are both enjoying a change of pace in lifestyle after spending many years in Southern California.

“I love the people here and how kind and sincere they are. We are not used to people opening doors for us and letting us in in traffic. Everyone is so nice and not in a hurry,” relates Thurman, who says she and Marchant are always looking forward to meeting their newest clients.

“We just love forming new relationships,” she concludes.
